Reported by Li Chao, Austin

Fo Guang Shan Xiangyun Temple's "Humanistic Living Chan—Mindfulness Acupressure Guidance Course" began on the morning of February 1st in the meditation hall. The program consists of ten sessions, held weekly for two hours each. The first class attracted 16 participants, and the atmosphere was calm and harmonious.

The course is taught by Dr. Wu Qilan, who integrates Buddhist mindfulness principles with concepts from traditional Chinese medicine and wellness. Through simple and practical methods, participants are guided to harmonize body and mind. The class began with Baduanjin (Eight Brocade Qigong) practice, using gentle movements and coordinated breathing to promote the circulation of qi and blood, laying a foundation for subsequent acupressure practice.

Dr. Wu then introduced acupoints such as Shenmen, Neiguan, Sanyinjiao, and Baihui, explaining their roles in improving sleep, relieving stress, and stabilizing emotions. She also guided participants in self-acupressure techniques. Many participants reported feeling noticeably more relaxed both physically and mentally after the hands-on practice, experiencing the effects of meridian energy flow.

Xiangyun Temple expressed its hope that through this ongoing course, participants will cultivate mindful awareness amid busy daily lives, apply practical wellness methods in everyday routines, and rediscover physical balance and inner calm. Those who are interested are warmly invited to participate.
