On the afternoon of June 27, Fo Guang Shan Xiang Yun Temple hosted a lecture in its North America Dharma Tour series, titled “Zen Talks on Zen.” The featured speaker was Venerable Huiping, a member of the Fo Guang Shan Executive Committee. More than 80 attendees, including both Chinese and English-speaking participants, filled the venue. To make the event accessible to all, simultaneous English interpretation was provided.

Drawing upon classic Zen koans and Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s philosophy of Humanistic Buddhism, Venerable Huiping explained profound Zen teachings in a clear and engaging manner. He emphasized that Zen is not something separate from daily life; by cultivating an equal mind, a free and peaceful mind, and a wise mind, we can naturally integrate the Buddha’s teachings into our relationships and everyday actions. His insightful yet humorous presentation transformed profound Buddhist principles into practical life wisdom, earning warm applause throughout the lecture.

During the Q&A session, attendees enthusiastically asked questions on topics ranging from family life, the workplace, interpersonal relationships, and volunteer service. Venerable Huiping responded to each question with guidance centered on mindful transformation, self-awareness, and altruism, encouraging everyone to face life’s challenges with the wisdom of Zen.

Following the lecture, Venerable Yongjia, representing Xiang Yun Temple, presented a commemorative gift to Venerable Huiping in appreciation of his inspiring Dharma talk. Many participants then gathered at Tea room where they continued the conversation, listening to Venerable Huiping share stories about his journey into monastic life and his years serving as an attendant to Venerable Master Hsing Yun.

Even as evening approached, attendees were reluctant to say goodbye. Many expressed their hope that Venerable Huiping will return to Texas in the future, allowing the wisdom of Humanistic Buddhism to continue benefiting the local community.
