Reported by The Life News Agency, reporter David Austin
To put into practice the “Three Acts of Goodness” philosophy—do good deeds, speak good words, and think good thoughts—Fo Guang Shan Xiangyun Temple launched a one-week “Three Acts of Goodness Children’s Kung Fu Summer Camp” starting June 8. A total of 25 team leaders and volunteers, together with participating students, joined the program with joy and enthusiasm.
On the first day, a variety of classes were arranged, allowing children to learn moral education and life skills in a joyful environment, marking the beginning of a fulfilling summer vacation.
Venerable Jueji, the temple’s supervisor, encouraged students to embody the spirit of the Three Acts of Goodness and introduced the program’s administrative staff and volunteer team leaders. Venerable Yongjia used an engaging and interactive approach to guide the children in understanding the importance of gratitude, compassion, and respect, while also introducing Buddhist etiquette and environmental awareness. Group activities further encouraged interaction, teamwork, and friendship among participants.
The curriculum began with kung fu training. Under the guidance of Teacher Guadalupe, students learned basic forms to strengthen physical fitness, focus, and perseverance. They then sang the “Three Acts of Goodness Song,” deepening their understanding of the core philosophy.
In the arts session, Teacher Ellen Frazier led students in experiencing the handpan (a steel tongue drum), allowing them to appreciate the beauty of music. They also created a “Goodness Box,” encouraging children to record daily good deeds and positive thoughts. Through these rich and diverse activities, students practiced the Three Acts of Goodness while learning and having fun, creating memorable experiences of growth.
