Precious Lotus Sutra Edition Dedicated to Fo Guang Shan Xiang Yun Temple in Austin

On June 7, Fo Guang Shan Xiang Yun Temple in Austin held a Light Offering Dharma Service for blessings and protection. Approximately 60 devotees gathered to chant the Universal Gate Chapter of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva from the Lotus Sutra (Saddharma Puṇḍarīka Sūtra), praying for peace, harmony, and well-being for all.

Following the service, Venerable Jue Ji, Directot of Xiang Yun Temple, introduced a precious Dharma treasure that had been formally dedicated to the temple that day—a deluxe gold-on-indigo reproduction of the Lotus Sutra, meticulously recreated from an original manuscript preserved in the collection of Taiwan’s National Palace Museum.

The sutra set was generously donated by devoted supporters Tzu-Chiao Lin, Jen-Huan Pieh, Henry Hsiung, and Hsiao-Wen Sun. It is a high-fidelity reproduction of the Lotus Sutra handwritten by the Yuan Dynasty Chan master Yuan Hao. Produced using the traditional magnetic-blue paper and gold calligraphy technique, the work embodies significant religious, artistic, and cultural value.

Venerable Jue Ji explained that the Lotus Sutra is revered as the “King of Sutras” for its profound teaching that all beings possess Buddha-nature and have the potential to attain Buddhahood. This message closely aligns with the principles of Humanistic Buddhism. The dedication of this treasured scripture not only supports Fo Guang Shan’s mission of preserving humanity’s spiritual and cultural heritage but also symbolizes the transmission of the Dharma and the continuation of wisdom across generations.

Filled with gratitude, those in attendance received this precious offer with great joy and reverence. Inspired by the occasion, they renewed their commitment to studying and sharing the Buddha’s teachings, practicing Humanistic Buddhism, and helping to create a Pure Land characterized by truth, goodness, and beauty in this world.
