Veg Run & Peace Walk at Xiangyun Temple — Walking Together for Compassion and Peace

Reported by Zhou Li, BLIA Austin Correspondent

On May 25, the BLIA Austin Chapter organized the “Veg Run & Peace Walk” event, attracting more than 30 enthusiastic BLIA members. Participants enjoyed walking and socializing amid beautiful natural scenery while supporting healthy living, environmental sustainability, and world peace through action.

At the beginning of the event, Chapter President Lily introduced the program itinerary, and Venerable Yongjia shared the philosophy behind Veg Run, encouraging vegetarianism as a way to protect both personal health and the planet. The Venerable also spoke about the spirit of compassion and peace promoted during last year’s Peace Walk in the United States, expressing hope that participants could spread kindness and care through the walk.

Afterward, everyone enjoyed a hike along the Mayfield Park Trail, relaxing both body and mind among the lush greenery. The Xiang Yun Temple band performed lively songs that attracted many visitors to stop and listen. The peacocks in the park, calling out and interacting with participants, became one of the highlights of the event.

An-An shared experiences on healthy living, advocating for clean eating, exercise, and meditation as equally important aspects of wellness. Tai Chi instructor Supervisor Qiu led participants in a Tai Chi experience session, while instructor Chen Rui presented an impressive kung fu demonstration, adding even more excitement and energy to the gathering.
