UT OLLI Visits Xiangyun Temple Again — A Day of Buddhist Cultural Experience Through Images, Meditation, and Guided Tours

By Ben Shan, Austin

On February 27, 29 participants from The University of Texas at Austin's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), led by class leader Ms. Kay Hastings, returned to Xiangyun Temple for another visit. Following enthusiastic feedback from last year's program, they came back for a rich day of activities from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM.

The group first watched a short film about the Buddha's path to enlightenment and his compassionate spirit. They then sat in the main hall, where Venerable Jueji led a meditation session and guided them to "do good deeds, speak kind words, and have a virtuous heart," bringing wholesome thoughts into daily practice. This was followed by a session on "Time and Karma," encouraging reflection on cause and effect and the interconnections of life. Participants listened with open minds, deepening their understanding of Humanistic Buddhism.

The temple offered a carefully prepared vegetarian meal, and everyone enjoyed the offering. Before departing, each participant received a keychain and a calligraphy piece as a keepsake. Reluctant to leave, they promised to return. The event concluded in a warm and harmonious atmosphere.
