Prayers for Harmonious Coexistence and Swift Success

On February 17, the first day of the Lunar New Year, Xiangyun Temple held its New Year Thousand Buddhas Repentance Ceremony, drawing more than 200 devotees who gathered to pay homage to the Buddhas and offer prayers and vows for the coming year. The ceremony was led by Venerable Jueji, Abbot of the temple, together with Venerables Yongjia, Ruyuan, and Yisong. As the assembly chanted the Thousand Buddhas Praise, the resonant sounds of Sanskrit filled the hall, creating a solemn and uplifting atmosphere imbued with Dharma joy.

In his Dharma talk, Venerable Jueji cited Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s New Year calligraphy, “Harmonious Coexistence, Swift Success,” encouraging everyone to settle body and mind through the Dharma and to bring the teachings into daily life. He emphasized practicing the “Five Harmonies”: inner harmony of the mind, harmony within the family, harmonious relationships among people, social harmony, and world peace. The four monastics also extended New Year blessings, wishing all devotees purity of body and mind, abundant wholesome affinities, and diligence on the path of practice.

Devotees participated with great enthusiasm. As early as 6:00 a.m., people arrived at the temple to offer incense and prayers. Attendance throughout the day exceeded that of previous years, reflecting the temple’s growing impact in spreading the Dharma and benefiting the community. The temple also prepared gifts of auspicious oranges and “peace rice” to share with attendees, symbolizing good fortune and fulfillment, and marking a bright and hopeful beginning to the new year.
