By Liu Mingfang, Austin

On February 16, Fo Guang Shan Xiang Yun Temple and the Austin Buddha’s Light Association held Lunar New Year’s Eve events, including a community reunion potluck in the afternoon and an evening blessing service. Nearly 100 devotees and members gathered at the temple to welcome the new year with joy and Dharma delight.

The potluck-style “Hundred Families Feast” drew about 70 participants, who brought more than 20 dishes blending traditional New Year specialties with international flavors. Beyond a festive meal, the gathering fostered friendship, strengthened community bonds, and embodied the spirit of Humanistic Buddhism.

The evening blessing service was both solemn and warm, hosted by Joshua Clark. Student Zhang Haoyang performed a piano piece, and Melody Chang sang “Fairy Tale” as an offering through music. After Venerable Jueji’s Dharma talk, several devotees shared their New Year aspirations and reflections on Buddhist practice, highlighting the warmth and unity of the Fo Guang family.

The event concluded with the distribution of auspicious red envelopes and oranges. Participants offered the first incense and rang the bell of blessing, vowing to welcome the new year with wisdom and compassion, opening a bright and hopeful new chapter.
