Xiangyun Temple Launches Entrance and Boundary Signage Upgrade Project

Scouts Join Hands with the Temple to Protect and Enhance the Temple Grounds

To enhance the quality of the temple environment and improve public safety, Fo Guang Shan Xiangyun Temple continues to advance its Temple Maintenance and Repair Program. Recently, the temple completed plans to upgrade its main entrance sign and boundary marker signs along the back hillside. Due to long-term exposure to sun and rain, the existing signs had faded and deteriorated over time, affecting visibility and safety, and were in urgent need of improvement.

This project was proactively initiated and led by 16-year-old Life Scout Ethan Grigsby, who worked closely with the temple throughout the planning and execution process. Through multiple discussions and on-site inspections, the scout team and temple representatives carefully evaluated sign placement, construction methods, and budget considerations. The goal was to establish a clear and safe signage system that balances aesthetics, durability, and long-term maintenance needs.

The project includes the installation of one new temple entrance sign and ten property boundary signs along the back hillside. In addition, overgrown shrubs and vegetation along the hillside trail will be cleared to improve the landscape and ensure safer passage. Construction is scheduled to be completed between February 7 and 8, with total project costs estimated not to exceed $1,500, all of which will be used for materials. Labor will be provided on a volunteer basis by Eagle Scout candidates and their fellow scouts.

Ethan presented an overview of the project following the Chinese Dharma Service on February 1, and will share the project again after the English Dharma Service on February 7. The collaboration between Xiangyun Temple and the Life Scouts not only improves the temple's physical facilities, but also exemplifies the spirit of community service and the collective cultivation of goodwill.
