Written by: Xin Zhu
On the afternoon of January 29, Ms. Nidhi Chawla visited Xiangyun Temple to host a final gathering for her "Soft Beginning" online book club. She specially invited Venerable Jueji as a guest speaker to engage in an online Buddhist Q&A session centered around the assigned reading, "When Things Fall Apart" by Pema Chödrön.
The book's author, Pema Chödrön, is deeply beloved by readers interested in spiritual growth. Members actively asked questions covering topics such as self-compassion, psychological burdens, and life intentions. Venerable Jueji responded from a Buddhist perspective, encouraging participants to expand the "small self" into the "great self," and to face life's difficulties with compassion and wisdom, leading to greater ease and clarity in body and mind.
Wang Nuan, a teacher from Xiangyun Temple's Ethereal Drum class, along with student Dr. Luo Wenjiang, performed "Blue and White Porcelain" live. The melodious music brought an elegant and warm Chinese cultural atmosphere to the online participants. Many members shared feedback that through the Venerable's teachings and the soothing music, they felt gentle and solid support, which helped relieve inner knots and tensions. Ms. Nidhi also expressed hope for continued collaboration with Xiangyun Temple in the future, to bring spiritual nourishment and growth to more readers.
