Austin College Course Concludes Successfully: Outdoor Steel Tongue Drum Workshop Filled with Zen Serenity

As the semester at Fo Guang Austin Academy came to a successful close, the Steel Tongue Drum class held an outdoor field session on the afternoon of January 10, 2025. Organized by Instructor Wang Nuan, 17 students were led to the Quince Restaurant by the Austin lakeside for hands-on practice. Venerable Yongjia and Venerable Yisong were also invited to accompany and guide the group, bringing spiritual encouragement and blessings to the learning experience.

The weather was clear that day, and the lake shimmered under the sun. Surrounded by nature, the students repeatedly practiced “Blue and White Porcelain” as final preparation for their public performance later in the month. The pure, resonant tones of the steel tongue drums blended beautifully with the surrounding mountains and water, expressing a tranquil Zen atmosphere and reflecting the instructor’s wish that students “play with the heart, respond to the environment, and become one with nature.”

After the rehearsal, everyone enjoyed afternoon tea together. Instructor Wang praised the students’ dedication. Students eagerly shared their hopes for the future. As the sun set over the lake, the event came to a warm and joyful conclusion.
