By Life News Agency Correspondent Xixiu, Austin
On the morning of December 21 at 10:30 a.m., Xiangyun Temple held a "Merit Dedication through Sutra Copying" event, attracting 42 participants. The atmosphere was solemn and serene, as everyone focused on mindful writing, cultivating concentration and inner stillness, manifesting the pure power of collective practice. The event was led by Venerable Jueji and Venerable Ruyuan. It began with the recitation of the Heart Sutra to guide participants to settle into the present moment, followed by the sutra copying practice and the respectful reading of Venerable Master Hsing Yun's "Prayer for Hearing the Dharma."
The Dharma masters explained that sutra copying nurtures character, transforms one's disposition, and through each deliberate stroke, calms both body and mind, allowing one to experience the true meaning of the Dharma. The masters also cited Confucius's saying, "To learn and to practice what is learned from time to time," illustrating that sutra copying is not merely learning Buddhist teachings, but a process of repeated practice and internalization. Through continuous writing, one develops concentration and mindfulness, applying these qualities to daily life and enhancing overall quality of life.
During the event, five local participants were deeply moved by the solemn atmosphere and spontaneously joined the sutra copying practice, personally experiencing its calming power. The event concluded successfully, and all participants felt filled with Dharma joy. Many expressed their intention to continue participating in the future and to invite friends and family to experience this practice that brings peace to body and mind and enhances the quality of life.
