Medicine Buddha Ceremony at Xiangyun Temple
Participants Bathed in the Buddha’s Compassion

Report by Hsiu-Hsiu

On November 16, Xiangyun Temple held its annual Medicine Buddha Ceremony. Guided by four Dharma masters, the assembly respectfully chanted the Medicine Buddha Sutra and the Medicine Buddha Repentance Text. A total of 125 devotees participated, all immersed in the serene and dignified atmosphere, receiving the compassionate vows of the Medicine Buddha.

In the Dharma talk, Venerable Jueji, the monastery supervisor, emphasized that the Medicine Buddha practice offers profound healing for modern life. While physical ailments can be treated with medicine, emotional distress and mental suffering require the wisdom of the Dharma as the true remedy. She reminded everyone that simple acts in daily life—such as smiling, speaking with kindness, and offering words of encouragement—are forms of “mind medicine” that can calm and soothe others. The practices within the Medicine Buddha tradition are also diverse, including reciting the Buddha’s name, chanting mantras, and offering lights, all of which help increase merits and protect both body and mind.

The Dharma master encouraged participants not only to benefit themselves but also to share compassion and wisdom outward, becoming a source of light and warmth for others and for society. The ceremony concluded in an atmosphere of joy and blessings, filled with harmony and auspiciousness.
