Xiang Yun Temple Cares for the Community — Participates in Austin Veterans Day Parade for Observation and Learning

On November 11, the annual Veterans Day Parade was held in Austin, Texas, where hundreds of citizens and veterans marched along South Congress Avenue toward the State Capitol. More than ten members from Xiang Yun Temple attended to observe the event, learn about its procedures, and prepare for future participation — expressing the Buddhist community’s care for veterans and the local community.

The parade was lively and diverse, featuring nonprofit organizations, schools, businesses, and religious groups. High school bands played marching music, veterans rode on decorated floats distributing candy, and religious organizations such as the Catholic and Jewish Veterans Associations showcased a spirit of inclusiveness and diversity.

During the event, members of Xiang Yun Temple connected with the organizers — Texas Veterans Network and Heroes of Hope — to explore potential collaboration and participation next year. After the parade, a solemn ceremony took place in front of the State Capitol, including a flag procession, national anthem, prayers, and speeches, creating a dignified and moving atmosphere.

This observation deepened Xiang Yun Temple’s understanding of local culture and laid a foundation for promoting the Buddhist “Three Acts of Goodness” — doing good deeds, speaking good words, and thinking good thoughts.
