Austin Xiang Yun Temple “One-Day English Buddhism Introductory Retreat”

On June 22, 2025, Austin Xiang Yun Temple held a “One-Day English Buddhism Introductory Retreat,” attracting 25 local participants interested in learning about Buddhism. The event featured a variety of enriching activities, including a temple tour, Dharma classes, ceremony observation, meditation, and sutra copying, offering participants a deep and immersive experience in the teachings of Buddhism.
Venerable Jue Ji and volunteers introduced the core spirit of Mahayana Buddhism, the practical philosophy of Humanistic Buddhism, as well as the founding and global outreach of Fo Guang Shan. The Eightfold Path was explained, along with how to apply its teachings in modern life. During group practice, participants experienced Buddhist chanting and the solemn rituals. At lunchtime, they recited the Four-Line Verse to cultivate gratitude and appreciation.
Afternoon meditation and sutra transcription sessions guided attendees to settle into the present moment and experience mindfulness and concentration. During the closing discussion, participants reflected on their day of learning. The Venerable also explained the meaning of taking refuge in the Triple Gem. The session was warm and interactive, bringing a meaningful conclusion to this inspiring day of Buddhist learning.
