Homeschooling Family Visits Xiang Yun Temple
Reported by Humanistic Society Journalist Wu Xiaonan in Austin
On May 20, a group of over twenty parents and children from the Austin area who practice homeschooling visited Fo Guang Shan Xiang Yun Temple, embarking on a journey of cultural exploration and spiritual inspiration. Through exposure to Buddhist culture, they hoped to broaden their understanding of diverse beliefs and Eastern religions.
Venerable Jue Ji, the monastery’s supervisor, gave a concise introduction to the origins and philosophy of Fo Guang Shan. At lunchtime, visitors enjoyed a healthy vegetarian meal in the dining hall, and the parents expressed great appreciation for the compassionate and eco-friendly values behind the cuisine.
In the afternoon, the group took part in a tea meditation session at the Water Drop Teahouse, experiencing inner peace through the fragrance of tea and moments of mindfulness. As a parting gift, the temple residents presented each visitor with a calligraphy card by Master Hsing Yun. The event concluded successfully, leaving a lasting impression on both the children and their parents.
