Scripture Transcription Practice at Xiang Yun Temple: Monastics and Devotees Gather to Reflect on Dependent Origination
Reported by Joy Hsiu, The Life News Agency, Austin
On May 18, Xiang Yun Temple hosted a “Scripture Transcription Practice Dharma Assembly,” drawing over 50 participants from both local and international communities, including two young Chinese-American girls.
The event followed the global “Fo Guang Shan 59th Anniversary Simultaneous Scripture Transcription Practice” video, progressing in order through listening to a Dharma talk by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, chanting and transcribing the Heart Sutra, reciting the “Prayer for Sutra Transcription and Dharma Listening,” listening to a teaching by Venerable Hsin Bao, and sharing insights and reflections from the devotees.
Venerable Master Hsing Yun emphasized that transcribing sutras imprints the Dharma in one’s heart, helping to establish right view and purify the mind. Venerable Hsin Bao added that the global transcription initiative is a meaningful way to embody the Master’s spirit of spreading the Dharma. Participants shared personal experiences with the practice—some having transcribed daily for over 20 years, others using calligraphy as a way to cultivate mindfulness—expressing deep joy and Dharma bliss.
The two-and-a-half-hour Dharma assembly concluded successfully, leaving attendees with a deeper understanding and inspiration from the scripture transcription practice.
