Xiang Yun Temple Celebrates Buddha’s Birthday with Concert — Resonance of Sacred Sounds, Unity of All Beings

On May 4, Xiang Yun Temple hosted a Buddha’s Birthday Bathing Ceremony and a combined Mother’s Day gratitude and musical feast, drawing over 300 participants to a life celebration interweaving faith, filial piety, and art. The six main offering groups were formed by temple members, children, teenagers, and lay Buddhists from neighboring temples. The children’s sincere participation in the Buddha bathing ritual reflected their pure devotion. Venerable Jueji, the monastery supervisor, gave a Dharma talk emphasizing that bathing the Buddha symbolizes purifying the mind and awakening one’s innate wisdom.

The celebration continued with a Mother’s Day tribute. The Xiang Yun Temple Ethereal Drum Ensemble performed an original piece, while Fo Guang Youth presented flowers and blessings to their mothers. In the afternoon, the concert titled “Resonance of Sacred Sounds: Unity of All Beings” was co-hosted by Xiang Yun Temple and Classical Music for the World as the grand finale of the “East in the West” tour. Musicians from the United States, Italy, Korea, and Japan blended classical, Buddhist, and folk music to explore the dialogue between religion and art.

The program featured Vivaldi’s Spring, cello concertos, and cross-cultural compositions. The newly formed Xiang Yun Temple Choir closed the event with moving renditions of “Light a Lamp,” “I Believe,” and “Why We Sing,” deeply touching the audience. Venerable Jueji emphasized that sound transcends language and culture, connecting all beings. Art, he noted, is one of the most natural forms of spiritual practice. The concert concluded with a heartwarming dinner, sending wishes that harmony and blessings will continue to flourish.
